Two Arrested for Possession of Illegal Arms and Ammunition in Ashanti Region

 

The Ashanti North Regional Police Command has apprehended two individuals at Ahenkro in the Ashanti Region for the unlawful possession of arms and ammunition.

The suspects, identified as Yaw Adu and Samando Dokurugu, popularly known by his alias “Shapichino,” were intercepted on May 16, 2025, at the Ahenkro lorry station. They were riding a motorbike with registration number M-25-NR 1634 when officers on patrol flagged them down for a routine check.

Upon conducting a search, the police recovered a loaded Adler Tulpar pump-action shotgun with serial number 24SA-1073, along with three BB live cartridges, which were found in the possession of Samando Dokurugu

Authorities believe the suspects may be linked to a series of nighttime criminal activities that have recently plagued the area. Residents of Ahenkro have been living in fear following reports of robbery and violent attacks in recent weeks, prompting heightened police surveillance.

The arrest marks a significant breakthrough in efforts to restore security in the community. Both suspects are currently in police custody, assisting with investigations to ascertain the source of the weapon and their potential involvement in other criminal acts.

The police have assured the public that the suspects will be swiftly arraigned before the court once investigations are complete. They further urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement authorities.

This arrest underscores the police’s commitment to combating crime and ensuring public safety in the Ashanti Region.
