Nigeria captain William Troost-Ekong is warning his teammates not to underestimate Gabon ahead of their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup playoff match on November 13.
“Gabon is a strong team. Aubameyang continues to lead from the front, causing problems for defenders,” Troost-Ekong said, emphasizing the threat posed by Gabon’s star player Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The playoff structure sees Nigeria face Gabon on November 13 at the Prince Moulay El Hassan Sports Complex in Rabat, while Cameroon takes on DR Congo. The winners will compete on November 16 for a spot in the intercontinental playoffs.
However, Nigeria’s preparations have been hit by a major setback, with players and officials boycotting training over unpaid bonuses. The Nigeria Football Federation has acknowledged the dispute, but no immediate resolution has been provided.
Aubameyang, who has scored seven times in qualifying, will be a key player to watch for Gabon. Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen, who scored a hat-trick against Benin, will lead the Super Eagles’ attack.
The match promises to be intense, with both teams vying for a spot in the intercontinental playoffs.
