The Center for Democratic Movement (CDM) is calling on the Defence and Interior Committee to take immediate action on Hon. Ntim Fordjour’s allegations of suspicious flights. CDM’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Victor Agyapong believes the committee should invite Fordjour to present evidence or investigate CCTV footage at Kotoka International Airport for verification.
Two suspicious flights, AirMed flight N823AM and Cavok Air’s Antonov An-12B, reportedly landed at the airport from Gran Canaria, Spain, sparking concerns about potential cocaine and cash smuggling. The Minority in Parliament has demanded transparency, questioning National Security’s handling of the situation.
Transparency: Full disclosure of the cargo contents and investigation findings
– Accountability: Clarity on seized goods and cash, and actions taken by National Security
– Investigation: Thorough probe into the suspicious flights and potential security vulnerabilities.
– New Patriotic Party (NPP): Accused the government of intimidation and demanded a clear explanation on the flights
– National Democratic Congress (NDC): Linked the issue to broader security concerns, referencing past efforts to procure offshore patrol vessels for the Ghana Navy
– Former President John Mahama: Directed investigative agencies to collaborate with Fordjour and probe the allegations.
The controversy has raised concerns about Ghana’s reputation as a peaceful country and potential vulnerabilities in its security. If not addressed, citizens may perceive the government system as corrupt, emphasizing the need for transparency and accountability.
