In a heartbreaking incident at Adukrom in the Eastern Region of Ghana, a 15-year-old Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidate tragically lost his life after being attacked with a machete by a 17-year-old acquaintance. The altercation, reportedly triggered by a disagreement over GHC10, escalated into a fatal confrontation.
The two boys, once close friends, became embroiled in a dispute that turned violent. According to an eyewitness, tensions flared after the suspect confronted the victim’s friend over a previous altercation involving the disputed amount.
“The suspect slapped me and demanded to know why I had slapped a member of his group days earlier over GHC10. I informed my friend, the now-deceased, about the incident, and he suggested we confront the suspect. When we encountered him, he returned with a machete, and in the chaos, he attacked my friend, slashing him on the shoulder. I had to flee to save my life,” the eyewitness recounted.
The injured teenager was rushed to the Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. Medical personnel reported deep cuts on the victim’s head and shoulder, with significant blood loss contributing to his demise.
The incident has left the Adukrom community in shock and mourning. Residents have described the tragedy as senseless and avoidable, decrying the increasing violence among the youth in the area.
The victim’s grieving family is demanding justice as they come to terms with the devastating loss.
Meanwhile, the police have arrested three individuals in connection with the case: the suspect, an accomplice, and the owner of the machete used in the attack. Investigations are ongoing to unravel the full details of the incident, with the aim of ensuring a swift and just prosecution.
