Former Presidential Aide and Senior Adviser to President John Dramani Mahama, Tony Aidoo, says the latest ministerial reshuffle must translate into meaningful and constructive changes in the government’s performance.
Speaking on Ahotor FM’s Adekyee Mu Nsem programme in Accra on Thursday, August 27, 2026, Mr Aidoo said the reshuffle comes at a critical stage of the Mahama administration, with the government approaching two years in office.
He said the administration now has approximately two years remaining in its four-year mandate to fulfil its promises to Ghanaians and establish a lasting legacy.
According to him, the reshuffle should not be viewed simply as the replacement of one minister or deputy minister with another, but as an opportunity to improve efficiency, strengthen government delivery and address areas where the administration has not performed as expected.
Mr Aidoo stressed that the success of the reshuffle must ultimately be measured by the results it produces and not merely by the names of the officials appointed to new positions.
He said the government has a high level of responsibility to the Ghanaian people because of the expectations that accompanied President Mahama’s return to office.
He therefore urged the newly appointed ministers and deputy ministers to approach their respective portfolios with a stronger sense of urgency and a clear commitment to delivering tangible results.
Mr Aidoo identified the fight against illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, as one of the major areas requiring urgent and decisive government attention.
He said the continued destruction of Ghana’s forests and water bodies demonstrates the need for stronger coordination and more effective action from the relevant ministries and state institutions.
According to him, ministers assigned to critical sectors must be prepared to confront difficult national challenges rather than simply manage them from their offices.
He said the remaining period of the administration should be used strategically to address issues that directly affect the welfare and livelihoods of ordinary Ghanaians.
Mr Aidoo further noted that the reshuffle gives President Mahama an opportunity to inject renewed energy into the administration and ensure that government policies are translated into practical outcomes.
He urged the new appointees to work closely with their respective institutions and avoid bureaucratic delays that could undermine the government’s ability to deliver on its promises.
He said the administration cannot afford complacency, particularly as the political clock continues to run towards the end of its mandate.
Mr Aidoo maintained that Ghanaians would ultimately judge the government not by the number of ministerial changes it makes but by the improvements those changes bring to governance and the lives of citizens.
He said the President must therefore ensure that the latest reshuffle produces the “constructive change” needed to strengthen the administration and help it deliver on its mandate.
