Togbe Afede XIV, the Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State, has called for a transformative approach to leadership to propel Ghana toward meaningful and sustainable progress.
Speaking at the grand durbar of the 2024 Asogli Teza Festival in Ho, he emphasized that Ghana’s development has been stifled by pervasive greed, corruption, and the relentless scramble for resources, often at the cost of taxpayers and the environment.
Togbe Afede XIV underscored the importance of leadership that is rooted in integrity, accountability, and a genuine commitment to the welfare of the people.
He lamented that many leaders prioritize personal gain over national interests, resulting in poor governance, environmental degradation, and the misuse of public funds.
According to him, these issues have hampered the country’s ability to fully realize its potential despite its abundant natural and human resources.
The traditional ruler expressed concern that the continuous exploitation of the nation’s resources, coupled with corrupt practices, has led to growing inequality and a decline in the quality of life for many Ghanaians.
“True leadership,” he noted, “is about service to the people and the creation of opportunities for future generations.”
Togbe Afede XIV called for a new paradigm of leadership—one that fosters transparency, prioritizes sustainable development, and places the collective interests of the people above selfish ambitions.
He urged both current and future leaders to take decisive action against corruption and resource mismanagement, warning that failure to do so would jeopardize the country’s future.
The Asogli Teza Festival, a celebration of the rich cultural heritage of the Asogli State, provided the perfect platform for the Agbogbomefia to address these pressing national issues.
In his speech, he reminded the audience that the values of unity, responsibility, and respect for the environment, which are deeply rooted in Ghanaian traditions, should guide the country’s leadership in its quest for progress.
