Police in the Ashanti Region have arrested three Nigerian nationals suspected of being part of a syndicate that followed bank customers after large cash withdrawals and robbed them in Kumasi and nearby communities.
The suspects — Aboy Promise, 30; Favour Uwalaka, 45; and Kingsley, also known as KC, 35 — were arrested on Friday, October 31, 2026, by an IGP’s Special Team made up of officers from the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters and the Accra Regional Police Intelligence Directorate.
A fourth suspect, identified only as Chinedu, alias Alhaji, is currently at large.
How the arrests unfolded
In a statement issued on Tuesday, November 3, the Ashanti Regional Police Command said the operation was intelligence-led.
Promise and Uwalaka were first picked up at a hotel in Moshie Zongo. A search of their rooms reportedly led to the recovery of GH¢1,600, several mobile phones, a Royal motorbike and a master key, which police believe was used to gain access to victims’ vehicles.
During questioning, the two suspects allegedly named their accomplices and led officers to another hotel at Dichemso, where Kingsley was arrested.
Alleged robbery pattern
Preliminary investigations indicate that the group monitored banking halls, identified customers who had withdrawn substantial sums, followed them and robbed them.
Police also allege that the suspects used the master key to break into unattended vehicles belonging to bank customers and stole cash left inside.
The three are alleged to have admitted robbing a man of GH¢15,000 at Asokore Mampong on October 27, 2026, after he withdrew the money from Kwamang Rural Bank.
They are also suspected of involvement in similar robberies around the Atonsu branch of Fidelity Bank, the Ahodwo branch of Access Bank and other locations in and around Kumasi.
Police appeal
The suspects have been handed over to the Ashanti Regional Police Command and are assisting with investigations.
Police have urged bank customers to remain alert to suspicious persons around banking halls and to avoid leaving cash or valuables in parked vehicles.
Anyone with credible information on the whereabouts of Chinedu, alias Alhaji, has been asked to contact the police.
