Thousands of supporters and executives from across all 33 Constituencies in the region are taking part in the demonstration exercise against the Electoral Commission for an audit of the voter register.
Over 500 police personnel armed with riot control accoutrements and equipment have been deployed with majority of them surrounded the Regional EC office where a leadership of the demonstration will present a petition to the EC.
Despite the deployment of MIND personnel across the regional capital, there is heavy gridlock.
The demonstration dubbed ‘Enough is Enough’ is happening concurrently in all sixteen regions in Ghana.
However, the Ghana Police Service says adequate security measures have been put in place to provide security for the planned demonstration by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Tuesday, 17th September, 2024, in all 16 regional capitals of the country.
“As part of preparations for the demonstration, the Ghana Police Service extensively engaged the leadership of the NDC and the Electoral Commission in all the regions across the country.
“The agreed routes for the demonstration in all 16 regions which have been duly conveyed to the organizers are as indicated in the attached document marked Appendix A”, the police disclosed in a statement.
