Thomas Partey to Depart Villarreal This Summer

Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey is set to leave Villarreal this summer when his contract expires on June 30, 2026.

The 32-year-old has struggled to secure a regular role under head coach Marcelino, making just 18 appearances across all competitions and accumulating 943 minutes on the pitch since joining the Yellow Submarine from Arsenal.

Partey’s departure is reportedly due to Marcelino’s desire for a different midfield profile and financial considerations, given Partey’s significant wage.

The Ghana star’s estimated market value is €5 million, according to Transfermarkt. With his Villarreal chapter closing, Partey will look for a new project as he enters the latter stages of his career.

“He’s a player who’s had difficulties adapting to the team’s style,” a Villarreal source said. “The coach has other plans for the midfield, and Partey’s contract is up for renewal.”

Partey’s agent is reportedly exploring options in the Premier League and La Liga. He’s expected to be a key player for Ghana’s national team, potentially serving as vice captain at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
