“There Are Talented Basketball Players In Africa” – Dzaflo Larkai
Assistant coach of South Sudan basketball team Dzaflo Larkai has expressed that Africa harbors a lot of basketball talents worldwide that the federations needs to invest in the sport.
The former Great British basketball player was surprised to discover the abundance of South Sudanese players abroad upon joining the team, suggesting that other African nations possess similar, if not superior, talent pools.
Dzaflo Larkai believes these nations could adopt South Sudan’s strategy of recruiting players from various leagues to represent their respective countries.
South Sudan’s basketball team made history by qualifying for the Olympics in Paris for the first time since gaining independence.
Their remarkable performance in the Olympics included a victory over Puerto Rico in the initial group stage. However, they were unable to advance to the next phase of the competition after defeats to the USA and Serbia.
