Adwoa Asuama, popularly known as GH Mouthpiece, has revealed that she no longer sees the need to attend church after a painful experience she encountered.
In her view, the original purpose of the church—to support and uplift its members—has been overshadowed by its transformation into a profit-driven institution that exploits members for financial gain.
Speaking in an interview, GH Mouthpiece recounted a specific incident that led to her decision to stop attending church altogether, claiming it nearly drove her to sin.
“I stopped going to church because of something that happened to me. I went to a church, and if I hadn’t stopped, I would have become a sinner. Can you imagine being rejected in church because you don’t have money? I was even punished for something I didn’t do. After that experience, I made a promise never to step foot in church again. I was in pain when I should have been at peace.”
She went on to share details of the ordeal: “During a wedding ceremony, I was serving as an usher when someone misplaced their belongings. I was blamed and treated unfairly. I cried bitterly, and even now, it still hurts to talk about it. There’s so much favoritism in these so-called churches.”
According to GH Mouthpiece, churches in the country have strayed from their spiritual purpose and have become centers for business and favoritism.
“I don’t see any benefit in going to church. The real church is not a physical structure; it’s you—the human being. When God refers to the church as a building, He means the person, not a physical place where people gather to pray. These days, many churches have become markets where people sell anointing oils, stickers, and other items. It feels more like a trading center than a place of worship,” she explained.
For her, the commercialization of churches has made their true purpose irrelevant, leaving her with no desire to return.
