Former minister of Youth and Sports, Akua Sena Dansua who served for 11 months under the late president Prof. Atta Mill’s government has taken a swipe at the current leaderships of the Ghana football citing corruption and political interference within the football space.
Her comments come after the Black Stars failed to qualify for the 2025 AFCON in Morocco in an embarrassing displays over six games. Ghana have had heartbreaks at the 2019, 2021 and 2023 AFCONS finishing at the round of 16, group stage exited respectively.
All the national youth teams cannot compete with their pars at major tournaments under the current football leadership.
The domestic leagues- Ghana Premier League, Division One League, Women’s Football have been reduced to a corrupt and poorly managed sideshow under the weight of incompetence leadership.
“There’s a lot that has gone wrong, especially with football, in terms of leadership. I’m talking about ministerial and association leadership, corruption in the sector, political interference, and inexperience within the playing body, particularly the national teams.” she told Citi FM.
During her time as a Sports Minister Akua Dansua encountered numerous problems ranging from the Black Stars World Cup bonuses to the impasse between the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO).
As the National Democratic Congress government prepares to appoint its 26th Minister of Youth and Sports since its creation in 1978, key decision-making will be crucial in restoring the lost glory of Ghana football.
