Deputy Minister for Labour and Employment Relations, Bright Wereko Brobbey has indicated that, it will be difficult in settling newly agreed minimum wage increment and base pay for 2024.
In hours of heated negotiation, government agreed to increase base pay by 23% contrary to the over 70% proposed by organised labour.
Government has granted 23% salary increment to public sector workers for the year 2024. The salary increment will cover from January to June while another increment of 2% which will add up to be 25% will be implemented between July and December.
The National Tripartite Committee also approved 22% increment on daily minimum wage from GHC 14.88 for 2023 to GHC 18.15 for 2024.
According to the Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, the decision was arrived at taking into consideration the current economic situation in the country.
“We agreed that the minimum wage would be reviewed upwards by 22%, averaging from GH₵14.88 to GH₵18.15…We have concluded that the national base pay will be increased by 23% between 1st January, 2024 to 30 June 2024 and subsequently an additional 2% increment will be added making it 25% from July to December 2024,”
