There is no excitement in the ghana premier league now – Owusu Afiriyie

Former Ghana U-20 and Hearts of oak player , Owusu Afiriyie affectionately called ” Bayie” has expressed that there is no more excitement in the Ghana Premier League now as compared to their time.

In an interview on an another platform, Owusu Afiriyie emphasized that there was so much excitement and joy to go and watch football matches at the stadiums but today every player aim is to travel outside the country after playing just a season.

“Actually Ghana football has changed, because during our time, we go to stadiums to watch football, for now every player is hesitating to travel so, they don’t play the league for long so, there is no excitement. During our days, people used to ask, how many goals did Hearts scored but for today, you hear Hearts losing or playing draw , the same thing applies to Kotoko, the smaller teams are beating them now .”

Owusu Afiriyie played as a midfielder  in Ghana, Spain, Portugal, Austria, and England. Owusu Afiriyie performances ensured a move to bigger club Málaga, where he spent a season on loan at Portuguese club Chaves,

In 2001, Owusu Afiriyie returned to Ghana to spend two seasons with Heart of oak , before spending a further two seasons in Austria with Feldkirchen.

Short spells in Spain with linares and melillia, and in England with enfield town , preceded a final return to Hearts of Oak, where he finished his career in 2007.
