The Timing of Asiedu Nketia to contest Ofosu-Ampofo is wrong, He will surely lose – Former NDC Chairman

Former Constituency Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Mr. Ben Doe says the timing of the party’s General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, to contest Dr. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo in their upcoming internal elections is wrong.

He disclosed that several attempts by the party’s Council of Elders as well as the 2020 Presidential Candidate of the NDC, former President John Dramani Mahama to get Asiedu Nketia to rescind his decision failed.

“The timing of Asiedu Nketia to contest Ofosu-Ampofo is wrong, this is the time we need both of them to help the NDC win power in 2024 but both of them contesting for the same position is coming at a wrong time.” Mr. Doe said on Ahotor 92.3 Fm’s morning show Adekye Mu Nsem.

Every indication points to a keen and intense contest. If not handled well, it could have dire consequences. Whoever emerges winner will boost his political career and whoever loses will severely dim his.

Mr.Doe appearing on Adekye Mu Nsem as a guest told Citizen Kofi Owusu that having both Asiedu Nketia and Ofosu-Ampofo would have better the chances of the NDC winning power in 2024 but the decision of Asiedu Nketia contesting Ofosu-Ampofo surprises him.

As a member of the C4C campaign team of Dr.Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, Mr. Ben Doe is confident that Dr. Ampofo will be reatined by the NDC delegates because of his commitment and achievements to the party.

Ofosu-Ampofo’s re-election bid is facing stiff competition from Johnson Asiedu Nketia who has decided to elevate from the party’s general secretary position after serving for over a decade as the General Secretary of the NDC.

Eligible party delegates will elect a new crop of executives to man the affairs of the party at the national level for the next four years.

The NDC’s national election is scheduled to be held on December 17th this year at the Accra Sports Stadium.
