Constitutional lawyer Kwame Adofo, Esq., has clarified that the prison term handed down to former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Sedina Tamakloe, will be enforced regardless of her current whereabouts.
He explained that since she is not present within Ghana’s jurisdiction, the sentence can only be enforced upon her return or through extradition procedures.
Madam Tamakloe was sentenced to 10 years in prison for causing a financial loss of GHC90 million to the state. Her accomplice, former Operations Manager Daniel Axim, was also given a five-year jail term.
Her sentencing occurred in absentia as she had requested permission from the court to travel to the US for medical treatment.
Following the verdict, Deputy Attorney-General Alfred Tua-Yeboah stated that the state has initiated extradition procedures to bring the former MASLOC boss back to Ghana to serve her sentence.
Responding to this development on Ahotor 92.3 FM, Lawyer Kwame Adofo pointed out that although the ruling specified that the sentence begins immediately, there needs to be clarification from the Supreme Court regarding whether it commences immediately after the ruling or upon Madam Tamakloe’s return to Ghana.
