The President must accord the people of the Volta Region with respect – Dr. Julius Kattah

It’s very unfortunate and politically wrong for the party of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to stand out as the first gentleman of the land to use the national resources fairly in solving all national problems devoid of unqualified comments in his public speeches.

The President’s comment during his engagement with the affected communities in the Southern part of the Volta Region was very unfortunate and smack of disrespect to the chiefs and the people of the region.
The president and his team must govern the country with seriousness. The situation the communities in the Southern part of the Volta region are going through is a tragedy and needs empathy and support, rather than a political statement from the president which has no substance in relief exercise at this urgent moment of suffering and pain.

Dr. Julius Kattah, Fellow, Chartered Economist (ICEG-Ghana) disclosed this statement on Adekyee Mu Nsem’s morning show on Ahotor FM 92.3 in Accra.

He reiterated that water is good for life and at the same time a destructive tool to the environment as we can see with the disaster in some parts of the country and the havoc we are going through.
The president must do what it takes to accord respect to the people of the Volta Region and must be ready to live with the people as the father of the state and not for his tribe’s people.

Hon. Romeo Elikplim Akahoho Executive Secretary Chamber for Local Governance, who spoke on the same program was disappointed with the president, he thinks the president is playing with people’s pain by saying the people of the region do not vote for him.

He is of the view that the victims of the flood disaster are going through pain and loss of huge investments through hospitality and fish farming along Volta Lake.

He reiterated that the government and other institutions must come out with a comprehensive plan on dredging the river on time to manage this human disaster.
