The Ofosu-Ampofo family has held a thanksgiving service at the PIWC Auditorium in Sakumono to express gratitude to God for the successful funeral of their late father, Opanin Edward Kwabena Ofosu-Ampofo, and to appreciate the relatives, friends, public officials and well-wishers who supported them throughout the funeral rites. The funeral, held on August 8, 2026, at Kyebi-Asikam in the Eastern Region, attracted more than 4,000 mourners, with the family expressing gratitude that the ceremony was successfully concluded without any recorded accident.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Policy Adviser for Political Affairs at the Office of the Vice President and Board Chairman of Ghana Cocoa Board Dr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, said he was pleasantly surprised by the large turnout at the thanksgiving service. He explained that the family had initially expected a relatively low-key gathering because they had planned to meet earlier but were unable to do so due to various retirement services and other engagements involving family members and their associates. He said members of the family had been in different locations, making it difficult for them to come together as originally planned, and therefore the number of people who eventually attended the thanksgiving was unexpected.
Dr Ofosu-Ampofo Thanks God for Safe Funeral
Dr Ofosu-Ampofo said the large turnout demonstrated the strong bonds of love, friendship and support surrounding the Ofosu-Ampofo family. He thanked everyone who made time to attend the thanksgiving service despite their various responsibilities and expressed appreciation to those who had stood by the family from the beginning of the funeral arrangements through to the thanksgiving. He said the support received had provided the family with comfort and strength during a difficult period.
He also thanked God for protecting the more than 4,000 people who attended the funeral at Kyebi-Asikam, noting that there was no recorded accident throughout the funeral activities. According to him, the safe participation and return of the large number of mourners who travelled from different parts of the country was a significant blessing to the family. He said the successful completion of the funeral without any major incident was another reason for the family to gather and give thanks to God.
Dignitaries Acknowledged
In acknowledging the dignitaries who attended the thanksgiving service, Dr Ofosu-Ampofo recognised the presence of the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hon. Naa Momo Lartey, Ghana’s Ambassador to France, Her Excellency Mavis Ama Frimpong, and the Member of Parliament for Tema West, Hon. Lawyer James Enu. He expressed appreciation to them for making time to join the family despite their various official and personal responsibilities.
He also acknowledged Dr Nana Sifa Twum, Board Chairman of the Ghana News Agency (GNA), who served as the spokesperson for the family during the funeral arrangements and played an important role in communicating information concerning the funeral. Other personalities recognised included Mr Robert Kofi Nyantakyi, a former Managing Director of TV3 and former Special Assistant to the Minister for National Security, and Mr Christopher Boadi-Mensah, Chief Executive Officer of the National Pensions Regulatory Authority (NPRA), for their presence and support.
Appreciation to Ahotor FM and PIWC
Dr Ofosu-Ampofo further expressed appreciation to the management and staff of Ahotor FM, led by General Manager Ahumah Daddy Bosco, for their support and presence during the funeral period. He said the family was grateful for the role played by the station in supporting and accompanying them through the funeral arrangements.
He also extended special appreciation to the Apostle, his wife and the leadership of PIWC for their immense support during the funeral and thanksgiving service. Dr Ofosu-Ampofo thanked the church leadership for its hospitality, guidance and assistance, saying their support contributed to the smooth organisation of the funeral and gave the family comfort during the period of mourning.
Family Appreciates Well-Wishers
The family also expressed appreciation to relatives, friends, colleagues, political associates and other well-wishers who supported them in different ways before, during and after the funeral. Dr Ofosu-Ampofo thanked those who travelled from various parts of the country to Kyebi-Asikam in the Eastern Region to mourn with the family and pay their last respects to the late Opanin Edward Kwabena Ofosu-Ampofo. He also acknowledged individuals and organisations that offered prayers, financial assistance, logistical support and other forms of help, saying the overwhelming response was a reflection of the love and respect people had for their late father.
“We Are Not Orphans”
In his concluding remarks, Dr Ofosu-Ampofo encouraged members of the family to remain strong in their faith as they come to terms with the loss of their father. He said although the family had lost their father and would continue to feel the pain of his absence, they should not consider themselves orphans because they have Jesus Christ watching over them. He urged the family to remain steadfast in their Christian faith and continue trusting in God for strength, guidance and protection as they move forward.
He stressed that having Jesus Christ means having everything needed to face the challenges of life and encouraged family members to maintain their faith despite the loss. He said the family should look to God for comfort and direction as they continue life without their father.
Family Celebrates Father’s Legacy
The thanksgiving service therefore provided the Ofosu-Ampofo family with an opportunity to give thanks to God for the successful funeral and formally acknowledge the numerous individuals and institutions that stood by them during their period of mourning. The family said the successful funeral held on August 8, 2026, at Kyebi-Asikam, coupled with the safe participation of more than 4,000 mourners without any recorded accident, was a significant blessing.
The service also allowed family members, friends and well-wishers to celebrate the life, values and legacy of Opanin Edward Kwabena Ofosu-Ampofo. The family expressed gratitude for the outpouring of love and support and encouraged its members to remain united, hopeful and steadfast in their faith as they continue their lives while preserving the values and legacy left behind by their late father.
