The NPP lacks the leaders to call the Amenfi East PC to order – Security Expert

Security Expert Opanyin Sarkodie has criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for failing to reprimand their Parliamentary Candidate for Amenfi East, Ernest Frimpong, over his comments on illegal mining, known as galamsey.

Opanyin Sarkodie suggested that the NPP is deliberately protecting Mr. Frimpong because illegal mining is a significant source of their funding.

His remarks were in response to a video circulating online in which Mr. Frimpong encourages illegal miners to attack police and military personnel who try to stop their activities.

In the video, Ernest Frimpong is seen urging miners to confront law enforcement officers, which has sparked outrage. However, Frimpong claims that his comments were taken out of context from a two-hour discussion with artisanal small-scale miners.

Speaking on Ahotor FM‘s ‘Simpieso‘ show with host Emmanuel Martey, Opanyin Sarkodie described Ernest Frimpong’s comments as a security threat that must be investigated.

He warned that disrespecting the military could have serious consequences, though he believes the military is currently restrained by the hope that John Mahama will win power and bring changes.

Opanyin Sarkodie called on the NPP to respect the military and not assume that having military personnel on their payroll gives them control over what can be said to them.
