The Medical Laboratory Workers’ Union (MELPWU) is poised to stage a protest in the coming weeks to demand improvements in their conditions of service.
The union has voiced frustration over the government’s prolonged negotiations regarding their conditions of service.
As per the union’s statement, they held their last meeting with the government on March 8, 2024, to address their conditions of service. Despite reaching consensus on 80% of the issues, encompassing both non-financial and financial aspects, the union is dissatisfied with the slow progress.
Speaking with Ahotor News, the General Secretary of the Association, Dr. Cephas Kofi Akortor, stressed that unless the government expedites the negotiation process, they will explore other avenues, including potential protests.
He further added that they have been waiting for an invitation from the Fair and Wages and Salaries Commission to their next meeting but to no avail.
