“The Best Christmas Gift Is Safe Arrival” – Road Safety Authority Boss Cautions Drivers

The Director of the National Road Safety Authority, Lawyer Abraham Amaliba, has issued a strong caution to drivers ahead of the Christmas festive season, urging them to prioritize safety over profit and speed on the roads.

Mr. Amaliba stressed that the greatest gift any driver can give to their family during the festive period is to return home alive and unharmed. He cautioned commercial drivers in particular against the temptation to overload vehicles or rush to pick additional passengers in a bid to make more money, noting that such practices put lives at risk.

According to him, drivers must value their own lives and those of their passengers, remembering that families are always waiting anxiously for their safe return.

He further emphasized strict adherence to speed limits as a key measure in reducing road crashes. Mr. Amaliba outlined the approved speed regulations, stating that drivers should not exceed 100km/h on motorways, 90km/h on highways, and 50km/h in settlement areas.

He added that drivers must reduce their speed further to 30km/h when approaching towns or areas with high human activity, such as schools, hospitals, funerals, and public gatherings. Observing these limits, he noted, significantly reduces the risk of accidents and ensures safer journeys.
Mr. Amaliba concluded by appealing to all road users to exercise patience, discipline, and caution throughout the festive season, stressing that safe driving remains the surest way to enjoy Christmas and reunite with loved ones without tragedy.
