According to Political Analyst and Senior Lecturer at the University of Cape Coast, Dr. Jonathan Asante-Otchere, the resignation of Suame MP Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu from his position as Majority Leader in Parliament was not entirely voluntary; rather, he was compelled to step down by pressure exerted by the Akyem section within the NPP.
Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu’s announcement of his immediate resignation came during a pivotal meeting of the majority group convened on Wednesday, February 21, at the heavily guarded banquet hall of the Jubilee House in Accra, under the auspices of President Nana Akufo-Addo.
Speaking on Ahotor FM, Dr. Asante-Otchere shed light on the underlying dynamics, suggesting that the orchestrated change reflects the Akyem faction’s strategic maneuvering to consolidate control within the party ranks.
In a candid assessment, Dr. Asante-Otchere insinuated that Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu faced internal party turmoil and was subjected to humiliation due to his stance against certain party ideologies and initiatives.
The development underscores the intricate power play and factional dynamics within the NPP, signaling broader implications for the party’s internal coherence and political landscape.
