Kintampo, Ghana – President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, has reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and security of every community in the Bono East Region.
Speaking at the College of Health in Kintampo during his Thank You Tour of the region, President Mahama emphasized that no meaningful development can take place in the absence of security.
He acknowledged the persistent threat of armed and highway robbery in the area and pledged urgent action.
“Development cannot thrive without security. We are aware of the challenges in the Eastern Corridor of Bono East, particularly around the Atebubu-Amantin area, Sene East and West, and the Pru districts. Highway robbery and armed robbery has become rampant,” he said.
In response to the growing insecurity, the President disclosed that he has already issued directives to the Minister for the Interior and the Inspector General of Police to reinforce security efforts in the affected areas.
“In response, I have directed the Minister for Interior and the Inspector General of Police to deploy additional security personnel to those areas where robbery has become rampant,” he stated.
To equip the police to deal more effectively with the situation, he also promised logistics support including vehicles and communication tools.
“We will also provide the police with patrol vehicles and communication equipment so that they can keep you safe,” he said.
President Mahama further highlighted his government’s intention to bolster community policing and enhance intelligence gathering as part of a broader strategy to combat crime in the region.
“We’re also going to strengthen community policing and intelligence gathering in order that we can reduce the incidence of armed robbery,” he said.
He concluded with a powerful assurance to the people of Bono East.
“Peace is not the absence of conflict, it is the presence of justice and protection and we will not rest until every community in Bono East feels safe and secure,” he said.
President Mahama’s visit to Kintampo marks the beginning of a three-region tour to express his gratitude to Ghanaians for the overwhelming support he received in the December 2024 elections.
As part of the Thank You Tour, he is scheduled to address a durbar of chiefs and people in the Bono East Region today, Thursday, 29th May 2025.
On Friday, he will visit Sunyani, the Bono Regional capital, and will wrap up this phase of the tour with a similar durbar in Goaso, the capital of the Ahafo Region, on Saturday.
