Popular Ghanaian DJ and media personality, DJ Slim, has sparked debate ahead of the 2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) with a firm stance on who should win this year’s Artiste of the Year title.
In a post on his official Facebook page, DJ Slim declared he would be “disappointed” if the award goes to anyone other than Stonebwoy or King Promise, citing their strong musical output and consistent industry presence.
“Aside from Stonebwoy and King Promise, none of the other artistes have shown serious interest or commitment to the awards this year,” he wrote. Though he didn’t name names, many believe his comments indirectly referred to rising rapper King Paluta, whose nomination has been met with both praise and skepticism.
DJ Slim, known for his outspoken takes and influence within Ghana’s music scene, emphasized that both Stonebwoy and King Promise have demonstrated the level of artistry, visibility, and audience impact worthy of the top honor.
Stonebwoy, a two-time Artiste of the Year winner, remains a dominant force, with his 5th Dimension album and sold-out shows bolstering his case. King Promise, who leads the pack in nominations this year, has enjoyed a strong run with hit singles and growing international recognition.
King Paluta, while hailed as a breakout talent with grassroots appeal, faces criticism from some pundits who feel his rise may be too early for such a prestigious accolade.
As the TGMA ceremony approaches on May 10, 2025, fans and critics alike are weighing in, with opinions sharply divided on who truly deserves Ghana’s most coveted music award.
