Residents of Teshie, Ashaiman, Tema, and Spintex facing prolonged water shortages can now heave a sigh of relief. Stanley Martey, Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL), has assured the public that engineers have successfully completed repairs on a critical pipeline supplying these areas. The announcement comes amid ongoing complaints from communities grappling with erratic water supply.
The aging pipeline, over 50 years old, has been a persistent headache for GWCL, requiring extensive fixes before a full replacement can be installed. Martey emphasized that while the immediate repairs are done, the company remains committed to a long-term solution. We urge residents to remain patient as we monitor the system closely,” he stated during a media briefing.
Water flow is expected to resume soon in the affected communities, bringing much-needed relief to households, businesses, and institutions. However, Martey cautioned that a rationing system will remain in place to ensure stability. Even as water starts flowing, we will manage distribution carefully to prevent bursts or disruptions, he added.
GWCL teams are actively monitoring the pipeline’s performance, with regular checks to address any emerging issues. Martey promised prompt communication, saying, Any updates positive or otherwise will be shared directly with the communities and through our official channels. This approach aims to rebuild trust amid frequent water challenges in Greater Accra.
Residents have welcomed the news, with many expressing hope for consistent supply. GWCL encourages water conservation during this transitional phase and has urged the public to report any anomalies via their hotline. As the company works toward modernizing infrastructure, this repair marks a vital step in alleviating the water crisis for thousands.
