In a heartwarming display of interfaith solidarity, the Tema West Municipal Assembly, represented by Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Hon. Ludwig Teye Totimeh, has donated essential food items to Imams across the Tema West Muslim communities. The gesture comes at the joyous conclusion of Ramadan, allowing the Imams to distribute the items rice and chicken to Muslims celebrating Eid al-Fitr after a month of fasting and prayers.
Speaking at the donation ceremony, Hon. Totimeh emphasized the assembly’s longstanding commitment to supporting the Muslim community. “We do these donations every year during their fasting and prayers,” he stated. “Previously, we provided sugar, milk, and Milo to sustain them through the holy month. Now that they have successfully ended their fast, we are giving rice and chicken to mark this special occasion.” He underscored the unifying spirit behind the initiative: “Because we are one people, we are giving them these items to support them. I pray that Allah hears and answers their prayers.”
Hon. Totimeh took the opportunity to call for greater unity among residents. “I further advise Muslims and Christians alike that we all need unity,” he said. “With unity, we can develop in harmony. Let us continue building on the unity we’ve enjoyed, especially in the Tema West Municipality. We are all one people what affects your brother affects you as well. If we embrace that mindset, we’ll realize unity is prime.”
Receiving the donation on behalf of all Imams in the Tema West Municipality, Imam Abdul Fatahu Salisu Adam expressed profound gratitude. “The assembly has been doing their best,” he noted. “Anytime there are occasions, they support us, especially during the one-month fasting period. We truly appreciate what the assembly has been doing.” He attributed the successful Ramadan to divine favor: “We give glory to Allah. With His permission, we were able to come through the fasting and prayers, and with His permission, the assembly saw fit to support us with these items.”
Imam Adam also offered timely advice to the Muslim community. “After doing all this fasting and receiving these blessings from God, we should keep it up,” he urged. “Make sure these blessings continue to the next Ramadan. And let this Eid be a peaceful one, nobody should take it upon themselves to do wrong things at their own discretion.”
This annual tradition not only provides practical support but also strengthens the bonds of coexistence in Tema West, a diverse municipality where Muslims and Christians live side by side. As Ghana marks another Eid al-Fitr on March 22, 2026, such initiatives highlight the role of local leadership in fostering peace and shared prosperity.
