The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in the Tema Region has initiated a project to sanitize its customer and asset database. This initiative is designed to automate work processes related to installation, replacements, maintenance, and decommissioning of downstream assets.
A significant aspect of the project is the identification and onboarding of uncaptured meters and individuals connected to the ECG network who are not currently receiving bills, aiming to improve revenue collection and reduce system losses.
The project commenced in the Nungua District and is currently underway in the Ashaiman District, with plans to extend it to other districts in the region.
As part of the implementation, downstream assets, such as low voltage poles, building structures, and meters, are being tagged with unique QR codes.
Customer information is also being updated into the ECG network to ensure accurate records and effective management.
Mr. Charles Obeng, the Project Manager and Director of Project Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation at ECG, emphasized the importance of this exercise, urging customers to cooperate with the personnel visiting their premises.
The ECG team is working alongside service persons, interns, and some military personnel, who are gaining on-field experience through this project.
