Tema East is poised to reclaim its parliamentary seat and secure additional votes for the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the upcoming December elections. Since 2021, the NDC has overseen significant infrastructural developments in the Tema metropolis.
Hon. Isaac Ashai Odamtten, the Member of Parliament for Tema East, made this statement during the Adekyee Mu Nsem morning show on Ahotor 92.3 FM, hosted by Citizen Kofi Owusu in Accra. He highlighted that his constituency and the Tema metropolis are experiencing a population boom. As a former Metropolitan Chief Executive, he has overseen advancements in various sectors, including educational infrastructure, housing, roads, and national projects such as the port expansion. These initiatives aimed to enhance freight and port services and expand the railway industry to facilitate the movement of goods and containers to inland ports.
Odamtten criticized the current Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) for Tema East Yohane Armah Ashitey for a lack of vision and failure to address the infrastructural deficits in Tema. He pointed out the neglect of social infrastructure, particularly the need for accommodation for unemployed youth.
Looking ahead, the MP assured his constituents that he is committed to regaining the parliamentary seat and boosting presidential votes for NDC flagbearer John Dramani Mahama. He expressed confidence that the underperformance of the current MCE, whom he believes is the NPP candidate, will lead to a defeat in the December elections.
Odamtten also lamented the decline in port activity, noting that despite substantial investments in port expansion by the previous government, the facilities are being underutilized. He recalled the visit of NDC running mate Naana Opoku Agyemang, who aimed to realign the party’s vision and continue its agenda of creating opportunities and jobs.
Additionally, he spoke about the success of coding school clubs he initiated in Tema’s schools, which have fostered an enabling environment for the youth in the harbor city. He believes that these efforts will contribute to the NDC’s return to power and the completion of projects that the current NPP government has left unfinished.
