Tema, Accra, November 8th, 2025: The Secretary General of the Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL), Abraham Koomson, has urged the authorities in Tema to adopt a more humane and considerate approach in handling the ongoing demolition exercise to avoid public resentment and hardship.
Speaking on Ahotor FM’s “Yepe Ahunu” show on Saturday, November 8, Mr. Koomson said while it is true that some structures were unlawfully erected, the manner in which the demolitions are being carried out could have serious social and political consequences.
He cautioned that Members of Parliament (MPs) in Tema should be particularly concerned, as the exercise, if not handled with empathy, could lead to loss of public trust and political support in the area.
“Even though it is unlawful for people to put kiosks or structures at unauthorized places, the authorities must also be fair,” he said. “Those who issued the permits or allowed the structures to be built in the first place should be held responsible, not just the ordinary people.”
Mr. Koomson called for dialogue, fairness, and sensitivity in the process to ensure affected residents are treated with dignity while maintaining law and order.
