Takoradi Baby Stealer Handed A Five Year Sentence

Forty-two year-old seamstress Rose Mawusi Fiaku, who abducted a one-year old boy from the Takoradi Market Circle, has been sentenced to five years in prison with hard labour by the Sekondi Gender court.

On Friday, March 23, 2019, Rose Mawusi Fiaku abducted the baby boy from his mother under the pretext of buying him a sausage.

Though her alleged accomplice and partner Lartey Lawson, 33, was granted bail and he is to reappear on Monday, April 29. Judge Abena Agyin Doku had requested a medical assessment of Rose Mawusi Fiaku’s mental state before giving her judgement on Friday, April 26.

Rose burst into uncontrollable tears, pleading for mercy when asked if she had anything to say after being slapped with the jail term.

Lawyer of her alleged accomplice, Emmanuel Arthur, pleased with the court to temper justice with mercy and instead of a custodian sentence, the court should caution and discharge Rose.

Nana Akosua  Boah, the mother of baby Francis Mawusi Ahiagbenu expressed relief at the verdict.

“I am happy justice has been served. I was saddened when I saw her crying but her time in jail will be good for her, so she doesn’t repeat it,” she said.
