Supreme Court can’t order Parliament to do anything – Tain MP

Sulemana Adama, Member of Parliament for Tain Constituency, has criticized the legal process surrounding the recent parliamentary seat vacancy case, particularly highlighting inconsistencies in the Supreme Court’s rulings.

Hon. Adama took issue with the Court’s decision in the case of Alexander Afenyo-Markin’s application for a Stay of Execution, describing it as both procedurally flawed and lacking a solid legal basis.

He emphasized the importance of consistency in applying legal principles, warning that inconsistent rulings undermine the coherence of the law and create confusing, conflicting rules.

Speaking on Ahotor FM’s morning show, Adekyee Mu Nsem, Hon. Adama argued that Parliament operates independently of the Supreme Court and should not be subject to its directives.

He stressed that the Court’s role is to interpret laws, not to dictate the actions of Parliament.

He warned that the Court’s handling of the case could set a dangerous precedent, creating legal contradictions that may harm the integrity of the country’s judicial system.
