The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin, has called on Ghanaians to rally behind Parliament to strengthen its role in governance.
Speaking at the inauguration of a newly commissioned building intended to support parliamentary work, Speaker Bagbin emphasized Parliament’s crucial oversight role and the importance of collective efforts to ensure effective governance beyond just legislation.
He described the new building as a significant step forward in enhancing the infrastructure of the parliamentary service, which he believes will bolster the institution’s effectiveness.
He urged all Ghanaians to take pride in and maintain the facility, fostering a culture of proactive maintenance to sustain the building’s purpose.
Highlighting the importance of Parliament in a democracy, Speaker Bagbin noted that a nation’s democracy is only as strong as its parliament.
He argued that to truly benefit from democratic governance, the focus should be on strengthening Parliament, as it serves as the “mirror of democracy.”
Bagbin further underscored that this responsibility doesn’t rest solely with parliamentarians but with all citizens, calling on Ghanaians to support Parliament in its duties as a path toward a thriving democracy.
