Suhuyini reiterates Mahama administration’s commitment to developing untarred roads

Deputy Minister-designate for Roads and Highways, Alhassan Suhuyini, has reaffirmed the Mahama administration’s unwavering commitment to upgrading the country’s untarred roads, a move that will significantly bolster Ghana’s infrastructure and economic development.

During his vetting before the Appointments Committee of Parliament on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, Suhuyini underscored the pivotal factors that will inform road development priorities, including high-traffic volumes, densely populated areas, and access to agricultural production zones. He also highlighted the burgeoning importance of tourism in determining infrastructure priorities, emphasizing that well-developed roads are crucial for unlocking the country’s economic potential.

Suhuyini noted that the Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Agbodza, in consultation with President Mahama, will make ultimate decisions on road prioritization. He expressed his confidence in the ministry’s ability to prioritize the development of untarred roads, acknowledging that the current state of affairs, where many roads remain untarred, is unacceptable.

The Deputy Minister-designate’s statements come as the Mahama administration seeks to strengthen governance across various sectors, including infrastructure development. Suhuyini’s nomination, along with other Deputy Minister-nominees, is subject to parliamentary approval.
