Sudan Dents Black Stars Afcon Hopes
The Sudanese national team secured a vital win after defeating Ghana’s Black Stars 2-0 in the second leg of the 2025 Afcon qualifiers in Libya.
The Sudanese team showcased discipline and determination, capitalizing on key moments to dominate the encounter, whiles their game plan worked to perfection.
The Black Stars, who were expected to bounce back after their first-leg draw game, struggled to break down Sudan’s well-organized defense. Sudan took the lead in the 62nd minutes of the second half through Ahmed Hamed Mahman after mounting pressure on the defenders of the Black Stars which lead to lack of communication resulting in the goal which was unpardonable.
Despite Black Stars attempts to recover, Sudan doubled their lead in the 65th minutes through Mohamed Raman Yousif Yagoub after a splendid header from Ahmed Yousif which went through the two Black Stars defenders, placing the ball at the back of the net, putting the game out of reach.
This defeat marks a setback for the Black Stars in their quest for AFCON qualification, while Sudan’s victory reignites their campaign, putting pressure on the remaining fixtures.
The match, played in Libya due to security concerns in Sudan, saw Sudanese fans celebrate a much-needed victory. Sudan now lies on the 2nd position with 7 points whiles Black Stars lies on 3rd position with 2 points after 4 games respectively .
