Julie Jones Owusu, a Public Health Officer at the Wellness Clinic at the Ledzokuku-Krowor Municipal Assembly (LEKMA) Hospital, has warned men against the misuse of aphrodisiacs.
She explained that overusing these substances can be dangerous and lead to various health issues, such as vision problems, headaches, prolonged erections (known as priapism), nasal congestion, and hair loss (alopecia).
In an interview on Ahotor FM‘s morning show ‘Adekyee Mu Nsem‘ with host Nana Dogbe, Julie Jones Owusu highlighted that aphrodisiacs include gels, creams, sprays, and drugs that people use to increase their libido and enhance sexual performance.
She emphasized that while these products might seem helpful, they come with potential side effects. Abusing them can lead to serious health problems.
She advised people to buy aphrodisiacs only from licensed pharmacy shops and to ask necessary questions to ensure they are well informed about their conditions and the safest options available. This way, they can avoid putting their health at risk.
Julie Jones Owusu also expressed concern about the youth buying unregulated aphrodisiacs from unlicensed vendors selling under trees.
She pointed out that these sellers often lack the necessary knowledge about the products they sell, making them a danger to those who use their goods.
