Stephen Niikoi Amasah Urges NDC Appointees to Work Hard to Retain Power

Stephen Niikoi Amasah, aspiring Constituency Chairman for the Ledzokuku Constituency, has called on government appointees and NDC supporters to work harder to support President John Dramani Mahama’s administration and ensure the party retains power in the next general election.

Speaking with Citizen Kofi Owusu on Ahotor FM’s Adekyee Mu Nsem programme in Accra on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, Mr. Amasah urged party members to remain united and focused on the government’s development agenda.

He questioned the decision by some opposition groups to organise demonstrations, arguing that some of the protests appear to be aimed at creating unnecessary tension rather than addressing genuine national concerns.

According to him, some young people are sometimes mobilised and paid to participate in demonstrations without fully understanding the issues they are protesting against.

He said the opposition must distinguish between legitimate concerns and political activities intended to create confusion and tension in the country.

Mr. Amasah further alleged that some members of the opposition are hoping for problems within the government so they can exploit such challenges for political advantage.

He, however, maintained that such expectations would not materialise, insisting that the government remains focused on delivering on its mandate.

He also urged government appointees to work harder and support the government’s agenda, stressing that it would take a collective effort from appointees, party executives and supporters to retain power.

Mr. Amasah said government statistics indicating improvements in the economy and positive developments in key economic indicators such as GDP should be acknowledged, particularly when the figures come from recognised state institutions.

He said the government must use the remaining years of its mandate to consolidate its achievements, implement its programmes and strengthen the NDC’s chances of retaining power.

The aspiring Ledzokuku chairman also drew a comparison with the period when the NPP was in government, specifically referring to former Ledzokuku MP and former Minister of State, Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye.

He argued that Dr. Okoe Boye had access to government resources and opportunities while in office but was still unable to secure victory for the NPP in the Ledzokuku Constituency.

He therefore questioned what the opposition could achieve now that it is out of government.

“Take your mind off the Ledzokuku seat,” he said, arguing that the NPP should not expect to regain the constituency merely by creating political tension.

Mr. Amasah further warned that if the NPP fails to change its approach, the party risks remaining in opposition for a very long time.

He alleged that some of the demonstrations organised by the opposition involve young people who may not even understand the issues they are demonstrating about.

He therefore urged the NPP to reconsider its strategy and focus on constructive political engagement rather than what he described as unnecessary tension.

Mr. Amasah also called on NDC supporters to remain united, support the government’s agenda and complement the work being done by President Mahama and his administration.

He urged all government appointees to work harder, stressing that their collective efforts would be crucial to sustaining the NDC in power beyond the current term.
