In a thrilling showcase at San Francisco’s Chase Center, Stephen Curry led Shaq’s OGs to victory in the 2025 NBA All-Star Game, earning his second All-Star MVP award on his home court.
This year’s event introduced a revamped format, departing from the traditional East vs. West matchup. The game featured a mini-tournament with four teams—Shaq’s OGs, Chuck’s Global Stars, Kenny’s Young Stars, and Candace’s Rising Stars—competing in two semifinal games, each played to 40 points.
The winners then faced off in a championship game, also decided by the first team to reach 40 points.
Despite the fresh format, the event received mixed reactions. Draymond Green criticised the new structure, expressing concerns that it limited playing time for deserving All-Stars and included players who hadn’t earned All-Star status.
Notably absent from the game was LeBron James, who sat out due to ankle and foot discomfort, ending his 20-year streak of All-Star starts.
While the NBA aimed to enhance competitiveness and fan engagement with the new format, the reception suggests that further adjustments may be needed to balance entertainment value with player recognition and participation.
