Accra, Ghana – The government of Ghana has formed a new Anti-Flood Taskforce to address the persistent flooding issues in the country, particularly in the capital, Accra.
In recent years, heavy rains lasting several hours have frequently led to severe flooding in Accra and other parts of the country, resulting in significant destruction of property and, in some cases, loss of lives.
To tackle the problem head-on, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic, has assured Ghanaians of his government’s commitment to finding a lasting solution.
As part of this effort, the newly established Anti-Flood Taskforce has been mandated to develop and implement effective flood prevention and mitigation strategies.
The task force is chaired by Mr. Stanislav Xoese Dogbe, Deputy Chief of Staff in charge of Operations, and includes the following key members:
Hon. Kenneth Gilbert Adjei – Minister for Water Resources, Works & Housing
Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim – Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs
Abdul Osman Razak – National Security Coordinator
Mr. Seji Saji – Deputy Director General of NADMO
Madam Marietta Brew – Legal Counsel to the President (Secretary to the Taskforce)
The government expects the task force to collaborate with relevant agencies, conduct thorough assessments, and implement proactive measures to mitigate the impact of flooding.
Ghanaians are hopeful that this initiative will bring much-needed relief and prevent future disasters in flood-prone areas.
