SSNIT Hotels Sale: The Government is making Everything Difficult for Ghanaians – Edem Senanu

Edem Senanu, who co-chairs the Citizen Movement Against Corruption, criticized the proposed sale of SSNIT Hotels as senseless.

He argued that the government’s decisions are making life harder for citizens.

Speaking on Ahotor FM’s ‘Adekyee Mu Nsem’ show with host Citizen Kofi Owusu, Edem Senanu questioned why the government would allow a struggling entity to purchase a profitable one.

This concern arose following a petition by North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa to CHRAJ, urging an investigation into the sale of SSNIT-owned hotels to Bryan Acheampong’s Rock City Hotel Limited.

Hon. Ablakwa alleged plans to sell a 60% stake in several hotels, including Labadi Beach Hotel, La Palm Royal Beach Resort, Elmina Beach Resort, Ridge Royal Hotel, Busua Beach Resort, and Trust Lodge Hotel.

Mr. Ablakwa’s petition raised concerns about conflict of interest, abuse of power, lack of due process, procurement breaches, cronyism, and corruption.

He cited constitutional violations under Articles 78(3) and 98(2) of the 1992 Constitution.

Edem Senanu reacted to this on Ahotor FM, questioning the rationale behind the hotel sale, especially considering its potential negative impact on pensioners.

He emphasized, “When you sell the hotels and get money, what are you going to do with it to help the pensioners?”
