Squirrels want name changed to a more fearsome one

Benin Football Federation is considering a new NICKNAME for the national team after realising the “SQUIRREL” is a very harmless animal. 

The Beninese Football Federation (FBF) wants to change the name of its national team

This nickname, “the squirrel”, dates back to the 1960s and symbolizes a small country that wants to make its way up. [19659007] However, the Executive Committee of the Beninese Football Association believes that it is time to better express the ambitions of the Beninese team.

They want a more harmful or dangerous animal to be named after the national team.

“The nickname of the national team must be in line with the people and reflect our strong ambitions in the world of sport,” they affirm.

“In order to propose a new name to the national team, the Executive Committee has decided to set up a commission for the change of the name of the Benin national team,” they explain.

The FBF has also launched an online survey that allows it This is not the first time that Benin has tried to change the nickname of the team, a similar gesture was initiated in 2008, but to no avail.

Benin never qualified for the World Cup and only played in the 2004, 2008 and 2010 African Nations Cup.
