Liverpool make Carabao final after thrashing Spurs on 4-1 aggregate

EFL Cup holders Liverpool made light work of Tottenham Hortspur on Thursday evening in the second semi-final game of the carabao cup at Anfield to book final berth with Newcastle United at Wembley. After Newcastle reached the March showpiece on Wednesday by completing a 4-0 aggregate rout of Arsenal.

The injury-ravage Lilywhites traveled to Anfield with a 1-0 advantage from the first leg ahead of kick-off but were quickly broken when Cody Gakpo’s back-post finish after 34 minutes level on aggregate score as Arne Slot took total control of the tie after the interval.

Red-hot Mohamed Salah put them ahead from the penalty spot after Antonin Kinsky brought down Darwin Nunez before Dominik Szoboszlai made it 3-0 with a cool finish in the 51st and 75th minutes respectively.

Van Dijk, substituted late on, was awarded a standing ovation by 60,000-odd packed into Anfield, the captain helping polish off a comfortable victory which moves him within one game of lifting another trophy.

Arne Slot will now get his shot at a first major trophy in charge of the Reds, who are into a record-extending 15th EFL Cup final.
