Ghana’s Sports Minister, Kofi Adams, has pledged to restore the Sekondi Sports Stadium in Essipong, Western Region, to its former glory. The stadium, which hosted matches during the 2008 African Cup of Nations, had fallen into disrepair due to neglect and lack of maintenance.
Phase 1 of the refurbishment is complete, with the roofing finished and washrooms fixed. The seats have been removed for replacement, and work is underway on the scoreboard. Minister Adams has assured Ghanaians that the government is committed to properly refurbishing the stadium to meet international standards.

The Sekondi Sports Stadium was once a hub for major sporting events, but its condition had deteriorated significantly. However, with the ongoing renovation, there’s hope for a brighter future for football in the Western Region.
The stadium’s revival is expected to boost local football, providing a much-needed venue for teams to compete and grow. Sekondi Hasaacas FC, the stadium’s home team, is likely to benefit from the upgrade.
