Sports Minister Denies GBC Director’s Claim Of Only Receiving $105,000 USD
The Minister of Youth and Sports, Mustapha Yussif, has rebutted claims by the Director General of GBC regarding the amount of funding received by GBC for the broadcast rights of the 13th African Games hosted in Ghana.
Contrary to Professor Alhassan’s assertion that GBC only received $105,000 from the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Minister clarified that a total of $2.5 million was disbursed to GBC.
This payment was made in two installments, with $1 million transferred on March 13, 2024, and $1.5 million on May 24, 2024. Additionally, an extra $1 million was directed to a third party at the behest of GBC.
These statements follow the Minister’s declaration before the Public Accounts Committee of the Ghanaian Parliament that his Ministry allocated over $3 million to GBC for the broadcast rights of the 13th African Games held in Ghana.
In contrast, Professor Amin Alhassan contended that the state broadcaster only received $105,000 from the Ministry, not the reported $3 million.
Mustapha Yussif emphasized his Ministry’s dedication to transparency and accountability in serving the public and fulfilling their responsibilities to the citizenry.
