‘Sports goes beyond Black Stars’ – Sports Minister Designate, Kofi Iddie Adams

Minister-designate for Sports and Recreation, Honorable Kofi Iddie Adams has been speaking even ahead of his appearance before the Parliament’s Appointment Committee after the president of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama selected him to head the ministry on Tuesday morning.

The member of parliament for Buem Constituency in the Oti Region was among list of other ministers Designate for various sectors in the president’s third batch of appointments released to go through rigmarole vetting process.

The deep in brains in Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology with emphasis on Epidemiology of Parasitic Diseases and politician has said the sports should be seen as football alone stressing that sports far goes beyond the “cash cow” Black Stars.

“Sports is not football; sports is not Black Stars. Sports go beyond football and football should go beyond Black Stars. But, of course, Black Stars is the ultimate. We want to see our Black Stars back again,” he said.

“But whatever leadership you must offer to the other federations and associations to make sure that each and everyone of them succeeds, I will do so,” Adams shared.
“I know that football is the nation’s love and so you don’t reduce your attention on what the nation loves but you develop all other ones because everything must be developed holistically,” he concluded.

It has almost always been seen for the past recent years that the Sports Ministry pays more attention to football and more specifically the Black Stars-Ghana’s National Men’s Team at the neglect of the other sporting disciplines.

If successful, the 46-year old politician will supersede Mustafa Ussif, who served as Minister of Sports from 2021 under the previous administration led by Nana Akufo-Addo and will become the 27th minister to head the sector since 1978.

The politician is expected to change the fortunes of the industry including sports infrastructure, national teams funding and performance at major tournaments.
