The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has strengthened the Black Stars’ technical setup with the appointment of Spanish analyst Jose Daniel Martínez Alfonso ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Martínez Alfonso joins the senior national team in a specialized role centered on scouting, match preparation, and performance analysis, bringing valuable international experience to the Black Stars’ backroom staff.
He currently works as an assistant coach and video analyst at Major League Soccer side Atlanta United FC, where he plays a key role in tactical planning, opposition scouting, and in-depth match analysis.
His inclusion forms part of a broader expansion of the Black Stars’ technical structure as Ghana prepares for its fifth appearance at the FIFA World Cup. The move is in line with the GFA’s long-standing approach of bolstering the national team’s technical bench whenever Ghana qualifies for major international competitions.
Martínez Alfonso is expected to work closely with head coach Otto Addo and other members of the technical team, providing detailed analytical insights to support tactical decisions, optimize player preparation, and enhance overall team performance.
Ghana are expected to face Panama, England, and Croatia at the tournament, as the Black Stars aim to make a strong impression on the global stage in 2026.
