Ghanaian pastor and politician Christian Kwabena Andrews, popularly known as Sofo Kyiri Abosom, has sparked debate with a proposal to increase the entrance fee to Achimota Forest from GH¢1 to GH¢100.
According to him, the higher fee would discourage people from spending excessive amounts of time at the forest and encourage them to focus on finding employment and becoming productive.
Sofo Kyiri Abosom also questioned the practice of people visiting the forest to pray, suggesting that those who want to seek spiritual intervention should rather go to churchs.
His comments have generated reactions from the public, with some debating whether increasing the fee would actually encourage people to seek jobs or simply make access to a public recreational space more difficult.
The proposal has therefore added a fresh twist to conversations about Achimota Forest, its use by the public and the different reasons people visit the popular green space.
