Six Convicted in GES Payroll Fraud Case – Office of Special Prosecutor (OSP)

The High Court in Tamale has convicted six individuals for their involvement in a payroll fraud scheme within the Ghana Education Service (GES).
The scheme included the use of ghost names and the illegal processing of salary payments.

The convictions were secured after the accused pleaded guilty under the plea-bargaining arrangement offered by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
As part of the agreement, full restitution and reparation have been made to the State.

Among those convicted are school administrators, payroll officers, and accountants.
They were found to have illegally validated and reactivated the salary of a teacher who had abandoned his post, leading to wrongful payments totaling over GHS 86,000.
The total amount recovered in the case now stands at GHS 106,319.64.

The OSP has confirmed that investigations are still ongoing, with additional suspects under scrutiny.

Currently, six other criminal cases are being prosecuted by the OSP in courts across Accra, Tamale, and Kumasi, as part of its broader crackdown on corruption and efforts to protect public funds.
