“Since Kwadee is not a member of Musiga, we are not obligated to assist him,” said Abena Ruthy

Abena Ruthy, the Second Vice President of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), has stated that the union is not obligated to support Okomfour Kwadee since he is not a registered member.

She emphasized that not all musicians in Ghana automatically belong to MUSIGA. She confirmed that Kwadee is not a member and, therefore, does not qualify for the union’s official support., she said on Joy FM Showbiz A-Z.

However, she acknowledged that MUSIGA has previously assisted Kwadee and is willing to extend help again for humanitarian reasons, despite having no formal obligation to do so.

“There was a conversation about Kwadee recently, and he is not even a member now, but our president urged us to help him. So, that is what we are doing. We are a family. We are not obliged to help, but we are trying to look out for him as much as we can,” she explained.

Abena Ruthy further clarified that the union primarily supports its registered members in good standing.

“There is a perception that as long as you are a musician, you are automatically part of us. But we have members in good standing, and currently, Kwadee is not one of them,” she noted.
She also urged musicians across the country to officially join MUSIGA to ensure they can receive support when needed.

“If something beneficial is happening, you should sign up because it is important. We hope more musicians will contribute and understand the need to be part of the union,” she added.
