Black Princesses head coach Charles Simpson has reaffirmed Ghana’s determination to secure qualification for the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland ahead of their decisive final-round showdown with Uganda.
Ghana’s U-20 women’s side progressed after edging past South Africa with a 3-2 aggregate victory. The Black Princesses were held to an entertaining 2-2 draw in the first leg at the Accra Sports Stadium, but delivered a disciplined performance in the return fixture in Johannesburg, grinding out a crucial 1-0 win to seal passage.
With Uganda now standing between Ghana and a place at the global tournament, Simpson has made the team’s ambitions clear.
“Our goal is to go to the World Cup. South Africa proved to be a tough challenge, so we are extremely happy to have overcome them,” Simpson said after the game.
“We now have time to prepare properly and focus on our next opponent.”
The final qualifying round will be played over two legs in May 2026, with matches scheduled between May 1 and May 10. The winner on aggregate will earn a coveted ticket to Poland, as the Black Princesses look to continue Ghana’s proud tradition on the world stage.
