Shatta Wale Calls Out Fameye Over Selective Engagement With Fans

Ghanaian dancehall star Shatta Wale has taken a swipe at fellow musician Fameye, criticising what he describes as the selective manner in which some Ghanaian artistes engage with their fans on social media.

According to Shatta Wale, some musicians behave as though they are American superstars, paying attention only to selected individuals while ignoring content created by their loyal supporters.

In his remarks, the On God hitmaker suggested that some artistes readily engage with attractive women and a few selected personalities but fail to acknowledge the efforts of ordinary fans who promote their music and contribute to their success.

“Some Ghanaian artistes behave like American superstars. They ignore their fans’ content and only engage with fine girls and selected people.

If you’re selective about your fans, don’t complain when Ghanaians refuse to stream your songs or attend your shows,” Shatta Wale said, directing his comments at Fameye.

The statement highlights the importance of fan engagement in Ghana’s competitive music industry, where social media has become a major tool for promoting songs, building artist brands and maintaining relationships with supporters.

For many musicians, fans play a crucial role in determining the success of their projects through streaming, sharing music, attending concerts and encouraging others to support their work.

Acknowledging their contributions can therefore help artistes strengthen their connection with their audiences.

Shatta Wale’s comments also raise questions about whether musicians owe their supporters a certain level of interaction, especially when those same fans are expected to spend money on their music and shows.

While artistes may have personal preferences regarding their social media interactions, the dancehall musician’s remarks suggest that consistently overlooking ordinary supporters could affect the relationship between entertainers and the people who sustain their careers.

It remains unclear what specific incident prompted Shatta Wale’s comments about Fameye. However, his statement has brought renewed attention to the relationship between Ghanaian musicians and their fans in the digital age.

The bigger question is whether Ghanaian artistes can expect unwavering support from their fans while choosing who deserves their attention online.
